Adoption at distance
‘Rogationist Educational and Charitable Trust, W. Desom, Aluva’ is put for social activities by the Rogationist Congregation in India. This programme was started on June, 1991. Through the untiring efforts of the Rogationist fathers, it was possible to find many generous sponsors, especially from Italy, who are willing to take care of the education of poor, abandoned and orphan children. The beneficiaries of the program are deserving children from different faith and places. Though the primary aim is the education of the children, sometimes other indispensable interventions are also sought such as housing project, house maintenance, toilet, electricity, debt repayment, marriage, water facilities, medicine etc for the children and their families. About 350 houses are already constructed through us with the help of the sponsors. The program is also called ‘Adoption at Distance’ because the children are assisted in their own families. We facilitate the communication between the sponsors and the children. Many of the children who are helped by this programme are either from broken families or have lost their father/ mother or are suffering from serious sickness or are financially very poor. In short, they are the least privileged members of the society.
